Dennis R. Hoover, Ph.D., is a Senior Fellow at the Institute for Global Engagement. He is also editor in chief of IGE's quarterly journal, The Review of Faith & International Affairs. He has published extensively in the popular news media and academic outlets, particulary on issues of law and issues of global security and peacebuilding. He also facilitates scholarly and policy-focused events, op-eds, and academic publications for IGE staff and partners, particularly via IGE's key partner institutions such as Pepperdine University School of Law and Brigham Young University School of Law. Through this work Dr. Hoover has been privileged to work with many of the world's most influential scholars and practioners over the years, such as former Secretaries of State Madeleine Albright and Condoleezza Rice, former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair, Catholic University Law School professor and former chief lawyer of the Labor Department Marshall Breger, ICRD president and former Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Navy Douglas Johnston, Brandeis University Business School professor Judith Dean, Harvard Law professor Noah Feldman, Becket Fund legal counsel Asma Uddin, former Bush administration legal counsel Suhail Khan, West Point professor Don Snider, former U.S. Ambassadors Robert Seiple and Edward Gnehm, and many more.

He came to the Institute in January 2003 from the Leonard E. Greenberg Center for the Study of Religion in Public Life at Trinity College in Hartford, CT. He earned his doctorate in politics in 1997 at the University of Oxford. He earned his M.Phil. in Politics in 1992 at Oxford as well, studying modern theories of law and state, American politics, political theory, and the political institutions of advanced industrial societies.

His op-eds have appeared in diverse outlets including The Washington Post, The Nation, Georgetown Journal of International Affairs, America magazine, and more. Dr. Hoover is also co-editor with Chris Seiple and Pauletta Otis of The Routledge Handbook of Religion and Security (Routledge, 2013), co-editor with Douglas Johnston of Religion and Foreign Affairs: Essential Readings (Baylor University Press, 2012), and co-editor with Robert A. Seiple of Religion and Security: The New Nexus in International Relations (Rowman & Littlefield, 2004).

Dennis lives with his wife, Dr. Ruth Melkonian-Hoover, in Hamilton, MA. They have adopted two children, Isaac (12) and Gabriella (5). The enjoy supporting and raising awareness for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Dennis also serves on the board of deacons of First Congregational Church of Essex, MA.
